SUMMARY:Seminar | Barbara Kraus
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Barbara Kraus \nTitle: Cooling algorithms for state preparation \nAbstract: Preparation of low-energy quantum many-body states has a wide range of applications in quantum information processing and condensed matter physics. Quantum cooling algorithms offer a promising alternative to other methods based\, for instance\, on variational and adiabatic principles\, or on dissipative state preparation. I will present a set of cooling algorithms in a simple\, solvable fermionic model which allows us to identify the mechanisms which underlie the cooling process and\, also\, those which prevent it. Moreover\, I will compare and relate the performance of the cooling algorithms to other methods used for state preparation \nRegistration: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/ca217cd3-7bf0-4bbf-a6e4-18220196e43b@8f0d452c-b7a4-4964-b810-8c397374477b

SUMMARY:Seminar | Olivier Ezratty & Yasser Omar
DESCRIPTION:**IMPORTANT: The seminar will begin at 5 p.m.\, not at 4 p.m. as usual.** \nTitle: The energetic challenges of Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computers \nSpeakers: Olivier Ezratty & Yasser Omar \nAbstract: Olivier Ezratty and Yasser Omar will present an overview of the energetic challenges of upcoming fault-tolerant quantum computers (FTQC). \nOlivier Ezratty will frame various scenarios of quantum computing energy consumption in the global ICT landscape. SUMMARY:Seminar | Ainesh Bakshi
DESCRIPTION:🗓️03/03/2026\n\n \n\nSpeaker: Ainesh Bakshi\n\n \n\nTitle: Entanglement in quantum spin chains is strictly finite at any temperature\n\n \n\nAbstract: Entanglement is the hallmark of quantum physics\, yet its characterization in interacting many-body systems at thermal equilibrium remains one of the most important challenges in quantum statistical physics. In this talk\, Ainesh will show that the Gibbs state of any quantum spin chain can be exactly decomposed into a mixture of matrix product states with a bond dimension that is independent of the system size\, at any finite temperature. As a consequence\, the Schmidt number\, arguably the most stringent measure of bipartite entanglement\, is strictly finite for thermal states\, even in the thermodynamic limit. The decomposition is explicit and is accompanied by an efficient classical algorithm to sample the resulting matrix product states.\n\n \n\nRegistration: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/fe73a7c6-0723-43d0-9ebe-d05ffd43eec2@8f0d452c-b7a4-4964-b810-8c397374477b

SUMMARY:Seminar | Dr Carmen Palacios
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr Carmen Palacios Berraquero (Founder & CEO\, Nu Quantum) \nTitle: Entanglement Networks for Datacentre-Scale Quantum Computing \nAbstract: The quantum computing industry has been sustaining fast progress in scale-up\, with quantum processors now demonstrating error-corrected logical qubits and first indications of computational advantage for narrow scientific problems. This talk will look ahead to what we require to reach full commercial advantage\, and show that there is a key piece missing: modularity. The scaling path we envisage will entail building multi-core quantum computing clusters at the datacenter scale\, and eventually connecting tens or hundreds of modules together to enable multi-million-qubit machines. \nThis talk will describe our distributed quantum computing architecture underpinned by photonic interconnects. It will outline the technical challenges that need to be overcome to progress the technology\, and how Nu Quantum is working to build the pieces needed to scale out towards useful quantum computation. \nRegistration: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/987b8330-9bac-43ba-a6c5-ff7d97987276@8f0d452c-b7a4-4964-b810-8c397374477b

DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce the first edition of «La Ricotta Summer School: The Quantum in the Haystack«\, to be held from June 29th to July 10th\, 2026 in As Barreiras (Castro Caldelas\, Spain). The schools meant to be the first one in a series and is designed to gather graduate students as well as early-stage postdocs in an informal atmosphere. This year the focus will be on theoretical aspects of quantum information theory\, ranging from fundamental aspects to specialized topics\, e.g. circuits\, entanglement\, non-equilibrium quantum systems\, quantum computing\, higher order operations\, quantum correlations\, quantum networks\, Bell non-locality\, many-body quantum chaos\, and tensor networks. The school is structured as four sets of blackboard lectures\, complemented by discussion sessions. This year\, we are honored to host the following lecturers: \nÁlvaro Martín Alhambra (IFT UAM/CSIC):\nQuantum algorithms for physics: quantum simulations and open systems. \nJessica Bavaresco (CNRS & Sorbonne University):\nHigher-order quantum transformations: from quantum circuit design to indefinite causal order. \nPavel Kos (University of Ljubljana):\nSolvable quantum circuits: correlations\, chaos\, and information scrambling. \nLuca Tagliacozzo (IFF CSIC):\nTensor network for highly entangled state \nThe school venue is a traditional Galician farmhouse that has recently been refurbished\, located in the Ribeira Sacra—a stunning natural wine region along the Sil and Mao river canyons. There will be no registration fee\, and food/accommodation—in the form of tents—will be provided for all participants. Registration will open today January 19 and close March 6. \nMore information is available on the school’s webpage: https://indico.global/event/16456/
