DESCRIPTION:**IMPORTANT: The seminar will begin at 5 p.m.\, not at 4 p.m. as usual.** \nTitle: The energetic challenges of Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computers \nSpeakers: Olivier Ezratty & Yasser Omar \nAbstract: Olivier Ezratty and Yasser Omar will present an overview of the energetic challenges of upcoming fault-tolerant quantum computers (FTQC). \nOlivier Ezratty will frame various scenarios of quantum computing energy consumption in the global ICT landscape. He will describe where energy is consumed in FTQC systems and present an optimization framework currently in the making. He will show how utility-grade algorithms resource and computing time estimates bring new questions on the energetic and power costs of quantum computing. He we also look at the prospects of the energy consumption of FTQC quantum computers based on vendor roadmaps across multiple qubit modalities and compare it with the most powerful current HPC systems \nYasser Omar will discuss a comprehensive approach to assess the energetic performance of quantum computing hardware and present some recent research results for trapped-ions\, cold atoms\, superconductors\, and semiconductors.
