SUMMARY:TalentQ SEMINAR | Laura Schulz
DESCRIPTION:Ttitle: Quantum-Accelerated Supercomputing: Where we are and where we need to go. \nAbstract: Quantum computing is a breakthrough science and technology star\, but its true power lies in partnering with supercomputing. In this presentation\, I’ll highlight LRZ’s multi-dimensional efforts to provide\, merge and optimize various quantum accelerators into HPC workflows and into HPC centers. This includes insights into the development of the Munich Quantum Software Stack and its mission to compute with hybrid HPC-QC using multiple quantum systems. I’ll discuss where we are at this point in time with quantum computing and what hurdles (we know about) now to overcome to get where we need to go next.

SUMMARY:Quantum Computing Master Class
DESCRIPTION:On April 14th\, World Quantum Day is celebrated\, a day dedicated to promoting the understanding of quantum science and technology.  \nTo promote and celebrate the World Quantum Day on April 14th\, CESGA together with IGFAE-USC will organize a joint International Quantum Computing Masterclasses outreach event focused on raising awareness of the transformative power of quantum computing and promoting opportunities in this technological field among young students. \nParticipants will have the chance to experience firsthand the world of quantum computing and use a Quantum Computer accessed in real-time\, provided by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and shared their results with other centers: \n\nCantabria (UC) – https://shorturl.at/gkvVW\nCataluña (BSC-CSUC) – Fully booked\nExtremadura (CénitS-COMPUTAEX) – https://shorturl.at/dfTZ7\nGalicia (CESGA/USC) – https://shorturl.at/bfpCG\nNavarra (NASERTIC/UPNA/TECNUN/UPV/EHU) – https://shorturl.at/hiCE0\n\nWe have organized a morning session from 10:00 to 14:30 (CEST) open to college or undergraduate students\, consisting of: \n\nTalks by researchers from different centers explaining the fundamentals and methods of fundamental quantum computing research to a group of students.\nA practical case allowing students to experience solving a problem by creating a quantum circuit.\nTo conclude the session\, a simultaneous session is organized among several international centers (via video conference) where students can discuss their results in a coordinated manner.\n\n  \n*There is a limited number of attendees to participate; please request your registration at the top in the Registration section.

SUMMARY:WORLD QUANTUM DAY
DESCRIPTION:The celebration of World Quantum Day aims to promote global understanding of quantum science and technology worldwide. The chosen date is a reference to the number 4.14\, the first rounded digits of Planck’s constant: 4.135667696×10–5 eV s = 0.000 000 000 000 000 004 135667696 electron volts seconds\, a product of energy and time which is the fundamental constant governing quantum physics. \nProgramme \n11:00 h \nPresentation of the piece Salto cuántico (Quantum Leap\, 2023)\, conceived by the artist Diego Vites in collaboration with the collective Nova Escultura Galega (NEG; Jorge Varela\, Misha Bies Golas\, Alejandra Pombo Su\, Diego Vites) and Violeta. Participants: the artists\, the director of CESGA\, Lois Orosa Nogueira\, and the director of CGAC\, Santiago Olmo. \nSalto cuántico is an interactive sculpture consisting of three mobile and interchangeable modules. The work\, which will remain on display at the CGAC from April 2024 to February 2025\, adopts the structure of the first computers of the nineteen-forties\, contemporary totems on wheels that allow for constant updating\, and functions as an open sculpture in quantum space. \n12:00 h \nQuantum Computing: what is it\, what is it for\, where are we?\, lecture by Eduardo Sáenz de Cabezón \nEDUARDO SÁENZ DE CABEZÓN (Logroño\, 1972) holds degrees in Theology (1996) and Mathematics (2001)\, and a PhD in Mathematics (2008). At present\, he is a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of La Rioja. \nAlso known for his work as a science populariser\, he is the author of the books Inteligencia matemática (Plataforma Editorial\, 2016)\, El árbol de Emmy (Plataforma Editorial\, 2019)\, Apocalipsis matemático (Penguin Random House\, 2020) and Invitación al aprendizaje (Penguin Random House\, 2023). \nSince 2019 he has been presenting the programme Órbita Laika on RTVE’s La 2. He is also the author and presenter of the podcasts Órbita Laika (RTVE Play) and Materia absurda (Sonora)\, and scriptwriter and presenter of Derivando\, the YouTube channel dedicated to mathematics. \nHe was the winner of the FameLab science monologue competition in 2013 and represented Spain in the international final at the Cheltenham Science Festival (UK). In 2019\, he received the Special Jury Prize for Science in Action. \nFree admission to all activities until full capacity is reached.
