SUMMARY:Seminar | Almudena Carrera
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Almudena Carrera\, Research Scientist at IBM \nTitle: Combining quantum processors with real-time classical communication \nAbstract: Many applications of quantum computing require more connectivity than the planar lattice offered by the hardware on more qubits than is available on a single quantum processing unit (QPU). In this work\, we address both challenges by linking two QPUs in real time via a classical channel\, effectively unifying them into a single\, larger-scale quantum computer. We demonstrate error-mitigated dynamic circuits and circuit cutting across two 127-qubit processors\, creating quantum states spanning up to 142 qubits and achieving a periodic connectivity that exceeds what one QPU alone can offer. In this talk\, I will discuss the experimental methods behind these results\, emphasizing both the conceptual and practical aspects of circuit cutting. I will also compare two different approaches—one without classical communication and one with real-time classical communication—and explore how each affects the feasibility of this technique. \nRegistration: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/721e1f57-7f5a-4b0c-9667-6801fb139e8a@8f0d452c-b7a4-4964-b810-8c397374477b

SUMMARY:Seminar | DAVIDE RUSCA
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Davide Rusca | Senior researcher at VQCC – University of Vigo \nTitle: Quantum Randomness: From Theory to Experiment \nAbstract: Randomness seems like a straightforward concept\, both intuitively and mathematically. However\, this confidence wavers when we consider the physical nature of reality. A simple classical description of the world suggests that everything\, no matter how chaotic\, is ultimately deterministic. Few would guess that the only way to truly reintroduce randomness into nature is through quantum mechanics\, where the probabilistic nature of measurement outcomes is intrinsic to the theory. But how can we observe this in a lab? How can we harness these properties of nature to generate true randomness? In this talk\, we will explore the history of Quantum Random Number Generators\, examining their complexity and some of their most intriguing properties. The main goal is to understand how we can transition from theory to experiment and ensure that what we observe is genuinely quantum and truly random. \nRegistration: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/ff97cc2f-3796-4b3c-bf27-b76683588290@8f0d452c-b7a4-4964-b810-8c397374477b

SUMMARY:Quantum Computing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The workshop consists of 3 Friday afternoon sessions on February 28\, February 7 and March 14\, 2025 from 15-19 hrs\, and a full day Hackathon on Firday March 21\, 2025. \nQuantum Computing will allow\, when sufficiently mature\, to tackle problems whose complexity scales exponentially and are\, therefore\, beyond the reach of classical computing resources. \nThe advent of fully functional quantum computers is still some years ahead. Meanwhile\, a class of strategies have been put forward in order to profit from the available infrastructures. \nIn this workshop we will show how to make use of those strategies in order to tackle real problems. The program will include both theoretical lectures as well as hands-on sessions. It will end up with a Hackaton where teams will address a particular set of proposed projects. \nThe level will be introductory and only requisits are basic knowledge of linear algebra and of programming in python.
