SUMMARY:Seminar | BENEDIKT POGGEL
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Benedikt Poggel\, Researcher for Quantum Computing at Fraunhofer IKS (Munich) \nTitle: Quantum Computing with a purpose – how do we decide when a solution path is beneficial? \nAbstract: To prove useful\, quantum computing needs to outperform classical algorithms on practically relevant applications. With the simultaneous advances in hardware\, theory\, software and applications driven by a highly diverse and interdisciplinary research community\, it is easy to lose track of this ultimate goal. In this seminar\, we discuss how application-driven research can help bridge the gap between the technology and its end users. Topics include the interplay of the classical and quantum parts of a full solution pipeline\, how to build towards abstraction layers\, and an in-depth discussion of https://arxiv.org/abs/2503.14696 highlighting a central obstacle in the application of variational algorithms in the context of near-term quantum computing. \nRegistration: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/9c05fc1f-df1c-4e46-a19b-d945cbfd753d@8f0d452c-b7a4-4964-b810-8c397374477b

SUMMARY:SEMINAR | Prof. Rainer Blatt
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Prof. Rainer Blatt\, University of Innsbruck\, IQQQI\, AQT GmbH. \nTitle: The Quantum Way of Doing Computations Simulations\, Simulations and Measurements. \nAbstract: In this presentation\, we review the fundamental functional principles of quantum information processing and provide an update on the status of the Innsbruck trapped-ion quantum computer. Using strings of trapped ions\, we implement a quantum information processor to carry out quantum operations. We present an overview of the available quantum toolbox and discuss the scalability of this approach. \nWatch it online here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQqAWygq_wE

SUMMARY:Spring School on Superconducting Qubit Technology
DESCRIPTION:Quantum computing based on superconducting qubit technology is currently one of the leading platforms in the race towards quantum utility. It is a highly multidisciplinary field and requires expertise in subjects like microwave engineering\, circuit design\, nanofabrication\, measurement technology\, quantum optics and metrology\, as well as cryogenics. \nCelebrating already its 2nd edition\, this school aims to cover a broad range among those subjects needed for a quantum physicist or engineer to work with superconducting devices. We invite expert speakers from universities\, research institutes\, and companies\, to cover not only the basics but also the specific techniques required to design\, fabricate\, and operate quantum devices based on superconducting circuits. Moreover\, there will be time and space for the participants to interact with and learn from each other. In fact\, we encourage the attendees to actively contribute to the school during the self-organized sessions\, which the participants shall use to learn from each other\, brainstorm\, solve problems\, or establish collaborations. Therefore\, we cordially invite not only PhD students and PostDocs but also quantum engineers with any academic background to enhance their training and strengthen the superconducting devices community. \nConfirmed Speakers\n\nWilliam D. Oliver (Massachusetts Institute of Technology\, USA)\nYvonne Y. Gao (National University of Singapore\, Singapore)\nIoan M. Pop (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology\, Germany)\nNicolas Roch (Institut Néel – CNRS\, Grenoble\, France)\nPol Forn-Díaz (Institut de Física d’Altes Energies\, Barcelona\, Spain)\nAndreas Wallraff (ETH Zurich\, Switzerland)
